Common questions
What is the difference between spun polyester and PolyCore thread?
Spun polyester thread is made from short polyester fibres twisted together, which gives a soft, cotton-like feel for everyday garment stitching. PolyCore thread has a continuous polyester filament core wrapped in spun polyester, so it is stronger and more heat resistant, which suits denim, workwear and high-speed sewing.
What do counts like 20/2 and 20/3 mean?
The first number is the yarn count and the second is the number of plies twisted together. A 20/3 thread has three plies, so it is thicker and stronger than a 20/2 thread made from the same yarn.
Which ticket numbers and cone lengths do you supply?
Our standard cones are 20/2 as ticket #50 on 1,500 metres, 20/3 as ticket #30 on 1,000 metres and 29/2 (Tex 40) as ticket #100 on 1,000 metres. 50/2 comes on 2,500 metre cones. Other lengths are made on request.
Can you match my shade?
Yes. We dye every order in-house on cone or hank. Send us a thread sample, a fabric swatch or a shade code you already use, and we match to it.
Is your thread certified?
Yes. Our thread is certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, Appendix 6, Product Class 1, the strictest class, which covers articles for babies. Our quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015.
